How to Select the Right Eyeglasses Frame
There are five basic facial profiles: Oval, Round, Square, Heart, and Triangle
Oval Profile
An oval profile is considered to be the perfect shape due to its balanced proportions. To maintain a natural balance, look for eyewear that is as wide as the widest part of the face. The oval profile gives you complete freedom in the selection of frames. You can wear almost any kind of frame style. A good rule of thumb is to choose a frame that is just slightly wider than the widest part of your face, keeping the size and weight in proportion to your body size and weight.
Round Profile
The round profile has curvilinear lines of the same width and length proportions. Use rectangular frame shapes or narrow angular frames, to make the face appear longer and thinner. Choosing frames that are wider than they are deeper with a clear bridge, widens the face and spreads the eyes further apart. The frames with the temples above the eye level and the bridge near the top add length to the face.
Square Profile
The square profile has the same width, and length is the same proportion, with a strong jawline. To soften the angles on the square face and make it appear longer, use narrower frames with softer curves. Also, frames with temples above the eye level and the bridge near the top are recommended to make your face appear longer.
Heart-Shaped Profile
A heart-shaped profile has a wide top third and small bottom third. The goal is to make the forehead look narrower and add width to the jawline. Using frames that are wider at the bottom with light colours and thinner in materials. Rimless frames, aviators, and bow tie shapes are a good choice. Frames with temples located near the middle and with lower bridge help balance facial features.
Triangle-Shaped Profile
A triangle-shaped profile has a narrow forehead that widens at the cheeks. The goal is to add width to the forehead and make the jawline appear softer. Use frame styles that angle up and outward at the top corners. Frames with temples and bridges located near the top. Semi-Rimless frames at the bottom are a good option. Cat-eye shapes are flattering for women and square frames are attractive for men.
