How to Insert Contact Lenses
- Always wash your hands thoroughly with lotion-free soap. Make sure to rinse well to remove all access soap from hands. Dry your hands with a lint-free towel.
- Always insert your contact lenses over a clean paper towel. If you mistakenly drop a lens, you’ll be able to find it easier. (Place the paper towel over the counter and lean forward so that you’re working over it)
- Always start with the right lens first to avoid mix-ups.
- Place the lens on the tip of your index finger of your dominant hand.
- Inspect the lens for any damage or tear.
- Check that the lens is not inside out.
- To do this, hold your finger with the lens on it against a light source. See if the lens looks like a bowl shape, that’s the correct side. However, if the edges flare out, the lens is inside out. To correct this just reverse the lens.
- Carefully, with the middle finger of your placement hand pull down and hold your lower eyelid.
- Gently, using either finger of your other hand, pull up and hold your upper eyelid.
- Look straight ahead, preferably in a mirror. Place the lens on the coloured portion of your eye.
- Move your figure out, look down, let go of your lower eyelid first then the upper eyelid
- Close your eyes for a moment to allow the lens to settle.
- Repeat the steps to insert the lens into your other eye.
- Dump the current solution out of the contact lens case. Rinse the case well with a multipurpose solution and let it air dry for the next use.
