Inserting & Removing Contact Lenses

How to Insert Contact Lenses

  1. Always wash your hands thoroughly with lotion-free soap. Make sure to rinse well to remove all access soap from hands. Dry your hands with a lint-free towel.

  1. Always insert your contact lenses over a clean paper towel. If you mistakenly drop a lens, you’ll be able to find it easier. (Place the paper towel over the counter and lean forward so that you’re working over it)
  2. Always start with the right lens first to avoid mix-ups.
  3. Place the lens on the tip of your index finger of your dominant hand.

  • Inspect the lens for any damage or tear.
  • Check that the lens is not inside out.
  • To do this, hold your finger with the lens on it against a light source. See if the lens looks like a bowl shape, that’s the correct side. However, if the edges flare out, the lens is inside out. To correct this just reverse the lens.
  1. Carefully, with the middle finger of your placement hand pull down and hold your lower eyelid.

  1. Gently, using either finger of your other hand, pull up and hold your upper eyelid.
  2. Look straight ahead, preferably in a mirror. Place the lens on the coloured portion of your eye.
  3. Move your figure out, look down, let go of your lower eyelid first then the upper eyelid
  4. Close your eyes for a moment to allow the lens to settle.
  5. Repeat the steps to insert the lens into your other eye.
  6. Dump the current solution out of the contact lens case. Rinse the case well with a multipurpose solution and let it air dry for the next use.

How To Remove Contact Lenses

  1. Always wash your hands thoroughly with lotion-free soap. Make sure to rinse well to remove all access soap from hands. Dry your hands with a lint-free towel.
  2. Always remove your contact lenses over a clean paper towel. If you mistakenly drop a lens, you’ll be able to find it easier. (Place the paper towel over the counter and lean forward so that you’re working over it)
  3. Always start with the right lens first to avoid mix-ups.
  4. If your eyes feel dry, it’s recommended to use a few rewetting drops to lubricate your eyes before removing the lens.
  5. Carefully, with the middle figure of your dominant hand pull down and hold your lower eyelid.
  6. Gently, using either finger of your other hand, pull up and hold your upper eyelid.
  7. Look straight ahead, preferably in a mirror. Place your index finger of the dominant hand on the side of the lens, drag towards your ears and at the same time look away towards your nose. Gently squeeze the lens between your thumb and index finger and remove it.

  1. To clean the lens, place the lens on the palm of your other hand, place the multipurpose solution and scrub digitally in all directions for 1 minute.

  1. Place the lens in the perspective case and place the multipurpose solution to the indicated line.

  1. Repeat the same procedures to take out the other lens.
  2. Depending on the multipurpose solution, allow the contact lenses to clean and disinfect properly for 6 to 8 hours.
